Mark Emmerson
Mark is an ecologist working across marine, freshwater, and terrestrial ecosystems, with a focus on understanding the drivers of biodiversity change and the consequences for ecosystem functioning and stability. His work spans research, teaching, and public engagement, with a particular interest in informing environmental policy and decision-making.
He currently serves as Vice President of the British Ecological Society and the Irish Ecological Association, Co-Chair of the All-Island Climate and Biodiversity Research Network, a member of the Belfast City Council Sustainability and Resilience Board, and a member of the All-Party Group on STEM in Northern Ireland.
Mark is Co-Director of the Co-Centre for Climate + Biodiversity + Water (Climate + Co-Centre), a €41.3 million tri-jurisdictional co-investment spanning the islands of Ireland and Great Britain. The Co-Centre brings together research, policy, and practice to develop solutions to the impacts of climate change, biodiversity loss, and declining water quality.
